CLIMATE
OCEANIC INFLUENCE

The Anjou region is characterized by an oceanic climate: mild winters, hot summers with good sunshine, and low thermal differences. The low rainfall favors the development of mellow, from the late Chenin harvest.

In the Saumur region, the hills slow down the westerly winds, the climate becomes more continental and the seasonal variations are naturally more marked. (Source: vinsvaldeloire.fr)

SOILS
LA BOUGRIE, AT THE CROSSROADS OF TERROIRS

The La Bougrie vineyard extends over the terroirs of Anjou and Saumur. Shale, limestone, sand and falun intersect, making Anjou-Saumur unique wines appreciated beyond our borders.

PRIMARY SHALE
The primary schist can be found in different aspects and colors (slate, purple, sandstone schists, etc.). It is found in thin slates on the traditional dwellings of the region.

PRECAMBRIAN SHALE

These metamorphosed schists are the mineral support that shapes most of the best renowned Anjou vintages made from Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc grape varieties. They make up the oldest land in the vineyard (over 530 million years old) mainly located south of the Loire and Layon.

WHITE CHALK (TURONIAN TUFFEAU)

This limestone sedimentary rock of marine origin is the soft chalk used to shape the regional heritage, including the famous Loire châteaux. Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc are planted there to produce wines that are often structured and complex. (Source: vinsvaldeloire.fr)
